The Original Pickers

I wanted to share a small portion of my mother in law's antique collection.  These are all items that my father in law collected from homes in the north Georgia mountains and West End section of Atlanta.  His intent was to sale but the best managed to stay at home.

When I arrived home I soon found out that my sweet 12 year old dog Emmy Lou had an osteosarcoma tumor under her shoulder.
Emmy Lou

Emmy visited with a couple of veterinarians who recommended that she have surgery to remove the tumor and then chemo therapy to follow.  So far she is doing well.  She did lose her front leg.  I am thankful for each day I have with her.

June 8th my husband and I decided to go to an estate sale and do some picking.  I was walking down some steps, slipped and broke my ankle.  I heard my fibula break.  I was not brave and I cried like a baby.  Once my leg was stable I had to hold on to the fireman in front of me and hop backwards as the EMT held me under my arms.  The other fireman held my broken leg.  I kept my eyes closed the whole time for fear of falling again.  The next step was a painful bumpy ride in the ambulance.  The ER splinted my leg, sent me home with pain medication and crutches.   Once home, I tried to use the crutches and fell on my broken ankle again.  I was home alone and had to crawl back to my bed.  I called my sister and she took me back to the ER.  The splint was changed and new X-rays taken.  I hadn't broken anything more.  I had know idea how hard it is to walk on crutches.  I had out patient surgery where the Doctor put in a plate on one side and screws on another.   July 6th  I was put in bright green cast.  It felt like they wrapped my leg in cactus leaves.  The cast came off  three weeks later.  When the cast was removed I received a cast boot that I could remove.  Finally today, August 13th, I the doctor gave the ok to start walking using crutches and wearing the boot.

Firemen and EMTS  were nice enough to give me pain medication.

Did I mention the tornado?  The day after my surgery a tornado blew down my neighbors oak tree and the power lines were pulled from our house.   We were without power for over a week.  I had to go stay with my sister.  We stayed at a Days Inn also while the repairs were being done.  Oh well, I did survive and my husband said he would give me an extension on our 5 year anniversary.
